Former NRL star Alex McKinnon has spoken about the overwhelming emotion of witnessing the birth of his first child just six weeks ago.
McKinnon, who suffered a spinal injury while playing for the Newcastle Knights in 2014, has spoken with 9 Honey about the life changing moment.
26 year-old Alex and his wife Teigan have followed their fairy-tale wedding with the joy of welcoming their first child Harriet Anne McKinnon in early October just ahead of their first wedding anniversary.
Alex has spoken of the emotion of witnessing his daughters birth, and how moved he became when baby Harriet arrived.
Alex revealed simply: “I bawled”
Teigan spoke fondly of her husband’s reaction: “Alex is very emotional,”
“There are photos and he is just full of emotion, and I was like relief, she is finally here… She looks like a Harriet to me.”
Alex and Teigan have spoken about the roller coaster of emotions they have endured and how they fell pregnant on their first round of IVF.
And while it is still only early days, the happy couple hope to extend their family in the future.
“When I was leaving the hospital, everyone was saying see you soon and I was like, not too soon,” Teigan joked.
“I think I’m going to have three daughters”, Alex said.
Alex has recently started a new recruitment role with the Knights which he combines with his work with Fox Sports.
