Tributes Flow For Victorian Schoolgirl Killed By Truck

A man is dead after a single car crash in central Victoria and a family is mourning the death of a teenage girl hit by a truck while crossing a road in Melbourne.

The man, yet to be identified, was found dead at the scene of the crash in Neilborough just before 9.30pm on Wednesday with the cause of the crash yet to be determined.

Earlier, a 14-year-old schoolgirl, named by media outlets as Aivy Nguyen, died in hospital after she was struck by a truck while crossing Whitehorse Road in Ringwood about 7am on Wednesday.

The driver did not stop but the 39-year-old NSW man later contacted police.

Her family and friends paid their respects on Wednesday night as they gathered at the scene, leaving flowers and cards to remember her.

The teen's cousin Kimberley Nguyen told News Corp Australia that Aivy would always look after her younger sister, aged 10, and they were "joined at the hip".

She was smart and innocent. She was adorable," she said on Wednesday.

Louis Datoi, a local father, left a bouquet of roses at the intersection and a note to organise a community meeting about the crossing, News Corp Australia reports.

He told the organisation his wife was hit by a car at the intersection last week and his children have been involved in numerous near-misses.

"It happens every day. My wife was hit by a car last week and a friend was hit two weeks ago," he reportedly said.

The truck driver involved in the incident was an employee of Makita and was delivering tools to a TAFE in Malvern East, Nine News Melbourne states.

"The company is deeply saddened by today's accident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young girl who lost her life," managing director Shigeru Okada told Nine News.

"Our driver is assisting police and the company will co-operate in any way we can."
