Toddler Found Deceased Next To Dog Who ‘Tried To Protect Him
Heartbreaking news has come through this morning, about a three-year-old toddler who was found deceased in his home in Washington State after a blaze tore through his home at about 11:30pm on Friday.
The toddler has been identified as Noah Whitcher, and his beloved pet dog was found next to him, believed to have been trying to protect his friend before smoke and flames engulfed the property.
Spokane Fire Department spokesman Brian Schaeffer says the dog also died in the fire that broke out. Schaeffer says three other children and an adult escaped from the blaze in Spokane's Hillyard neighborhood.
He added the fire was 'very intense' in the part of the house where they were found. 'It melted everything,' he said.
'There was no way to survive that.'
Firefighters say the house was a rental. The battery in the house's smoke detector had been removed and was therefore not working. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Police are also investigating the child's death. 'Flames were coming outside of the window.
I ran downstairs and told my wife to call 911! I yelled it out many, many times,' a neighbor told KXLY-TV.
