Sydney Set For Spring Soaking

Spring has finally sprung, and while we've been told to expect heatwaves over summer, we may have to wait a bit longer for temperatures to rise further.

Despite the city just having it's warmest August night on record when the temperature didn't drop below 15.8 degrees overnight (nearly 8 degrees above average) we're being told by the Bureau of Meteorology that unusually warm and moist air steams across the continent will result in us copping a drenching.

Later today we can expect the wet weather to return and Friday will have some heavy rain falls early in the morning.

Friday's rain chart: Bureau of Meteorology.

A low pressure trough from north-west of the country will spread and deepen as it hits the east coast.

Despite the rain it's expected to hit 22 today and Friday but at least 4 millimeters of rain is expected to round off the working week.

We're coming out of one of the wettest winters on record with the city collecting more than half a metre of rainfall (561 millimeters) which is almost double the average, with WeatherZone saying it's been the wettest start to a year in 18 years
