New 'Zombie Drug' Has Taken The Life Of A Melbourne Man

A Victorian footballer who was is in a coma in a Gold Coast hospital and was suspected of taking a mystery ‘zombie’ drug that is believed to left 16 people in hospital has died.

Riki Stephens and his Heathcote Saints teammates were on an end-of-season holiday when he took the drug on the weekend, according to club president Andrew Conforti.

It's suspected Mr Stephens may have taken "flakka", a synthetic stimulant believed to be behind 16 people being hospitalised after becoming aggressive, non-compliant and dangerous.

However, some reports have linked the overdoses to being a more potent form of the drug MDMA.

Friends have taken to Facebook to remember Riki including one who says ‘’Another one of the greats taken from us far too soon. Life has dealt us all a cruel and unjust card, and we'll never understand why.’’

Another friend said ‘My partner in crime, my date to presentation night and the captain of our boat, you'll never know the way you've changed my life and how much I appreciate it!’’

Our thoughts are with his family.
