Footage Released To Help Police Find Men Who Set Sydney Cafe
In one of the most despicable acts possible, two men have been caught on CCTV footage lighting a Maroubra cafe on fire.
NSW Police have released CCTV footage of two men lighting the cafe on fire, and then escaping as the venue caught well alight.
The incident occurred earlier this year, and police have now released the footage in the hope that the public will be able to assist the investigation.
The video shows two men dousing the cafe with accelerant before setting it alight, followed by a large explosion.
"The second male whilst inside lights up what appears to be a piece of paper and as the males exit he throws the paper towards the petrol and it ignites,"
Inspector Anthony Agnew said. "There's an explosion and the CCTV footage picks up one of the males running across Anzac Parade and his leg is on fire at the time."
Inspector Agnew said the man's injury could be the key to finding the men responsible.
"We're appealing to the public for assistance in identifying these males, that includes anyone that may have treated the male that may have sustained burns to his leg," he said.
He added if any men attended a chemist or medical centre around that time, to please contact police.
If you have any information about the men responsible that might help police, please contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
