Man Stabbed In Back By Another Patient At RPA Hospital
Police have confirmed that a man has been stabbed in the back while awaiting treatment in a Sydney hospital by another patient.
The woman, who was unknown to the victim, allegedly armed herself with a knife before stabbing the man in the back while they were both waiting in triage at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
The incident occurred at around 10:30pm on Tuesday evening and when police arrived at the scene they found a 45-year-old man with a stab wound.
The victim had been flown to the hospital in Camperdown for treatment from Wagga Base Hospital.
The woman had been brought in by ambulance from Burwood.
Police believe that the man and woman were not known to each other and that the incident was unprovoked.
Reports suggest that the woman lunged at the man and attacked him in a frenzied state.
The man has since undergone surgery and he remains in a serious but stable condition. The woman is under police guard in hospital and will later go under a mental health assessment.
Inquiries are continuing.
