Family Reacts To 'Horrible' Decision To Call Off Search

"…Please, just a few more days," said the daughter of missing Esperance couple over the news the search had been called off.

In a post to Facebook, Shanade Sim extended her thanks to the Esperance community and that it was “horrible to find out that they have stopped searching.”

Jeremy Sim, 41, and his wife Marama, 38, were last seen by family on October 18 about 4am as they headed off from their home in Esperance to go camping.

Hopes were buoyed after the couple had been sighted at the Lake King Tavern the same day they departed, which expanded the already massive search area.

On Wednesday it emerged that one of the couple’s mobile phones was detected near Munglinup on Sunday morning. However, after combing thousands of square kilometres with no trace of the couple or their 4WD, police suspended the search.

"We’ve obviously had a massive area to search and despite the search efforts, unfortunately we’ve had no sightings of this couple," Esperance Acting Senior Sergeant Jenny Sara said at the time.

"So until we get further information, unfortunately we’re going to have to suspend the search… obviously if we get something further then we’ll act on that."

It was not known where the experienced campers were headed.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of the couple or their vehicle is asked to call police on 131 444.
