Dead Whale Found With 40 Kilos Of Plastic Bags In Stomach

The D'Bone Collector Museum in the Philippines has posted a series of photos showing the examination of a dead whale, after it washed ashore.

The heartbreaking post shows the horrific results of dumping rubbish in the waterways and oceans first hand.

The whale was recovered on March 16, and following the examination, it was found there was over 40 kgs of plastic bags in it's stomach.

The whale was a juvenile male cuvier beaked whale.

The caption reads as follows.

The final cause of death is in for the death of the juvenile male cuvier beaked whale we recovered March 16 2019. 40 kilos of plastic bags. Including 16 rice sacks. 4 banana plantation style bags and multiple shopping bags. A full list of the plastic items will follow in the next few days. This whale had the most plastic we have ever seen in a whale. It's disgusting. Action must be taken by the government against those who continue to treat the waterways and ocean as dumpsters.

Museum founder and marine biologist Darrell Blatchley spoke with CNN about the shocking find, saying the plastic they found was so large in volume that it was starting to calcify.
