Chris Dawson's Former Lover And Student Will Be Star Witness
Chris Dawsons' teenage lover, former Cromer High student and babysitter will be among one of the star witnesses to take the stand to give evidence against the former Newtown Jets player.
70-year-old Chris Dawson is set to be extradited to New South Wales from Queensland to be formally charged with murder, over three decades since his ex-wife Lynette Dawson vanished.
The Daily Telegraph has reported that Dawsons' teenage lover Joanne Curtis has provided fresh information to authorities, which proved to be key to his arrest on the Gold Coast.
Curtis moved into the Dawson home almost immediately after the disappearance of Lynette Dawson, effectively becoming mother to his two children, four-year-old Shanelle and two-year-old Sherryn. It is believed that Joanne Curtis also wore Lyn's clothes, and slept in her place in the marital bed.
In 1984, they got married with Chris Dawson's twin brother and sister-in-law as witnesses. Dawson gave Curtis one of his missing wife's rings to wear for the ceremony. At this time, Dawson was 35, and Joanne Curtis was only 19.
Another star witness is Bev McNally, who babysat the Dawson children before Joanne Curtis, along with an anonymous third woman who recently met with detectives for the first time.
Dawson, a Newtown rugby league player in the early 1970s, has long been a suspect in the case but denies any involvement in his wife's disappearance.
The former school teacher appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday where his application for bail was refused.
