Bondi Beach Murals Graffitied With Swastikas
Bondi Beach isn’t just known for it’s ideal swimming location, gorgeous lookouts and walks, but also for the colourful murals that surround the sandy area.
But Bondi locals have been left horrified after the paintings were graffitied and covered in swastikas.
On Saturday night about 30 swastikas appeared across the iconic paintings on the wall that sections off the pedestrian area from the beach.
One resident, Michael Dunbar, told Yahoo7 News that the act was “disgraceful” and that he couldn’t believe someone would do this “in this day and age”.
“This shouldn’t be happening anywhere. Not in Bondi, not in Australia, not anywhere. It really is a shameful act.”
The anti-Semitic markings have upset the entire community, which has a strong Jewish presence, with the Federal member for Wentworth, Kerryn Phillips, saying that they will not put up with this type of behaviour.
“The Wentworth community is united in outrage by the news that thirty swastikas were graffitied on the murals around Bondi Beach overnight,” Ms Phillips wrote on Twitter on Sunday.
“There is no place for anti-Semitism in Australia.”
Dave Sharma, the Liberal Wentworth candidate, also slammed the act on Twitter, saying that it was a “shameful act”.
“What an abominable, intolerant and shameful act. Anti-semitism, racism, and hatred in al it’s forms has no place in our community,” he wrote.

A crew from Waverley Council has since begun clean up efforts to remove the vandalism.
NSW Police have also opened up an investigation into the incident, which they believe occurred on Saturday night, and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Anyone with information if being encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
