8,000 Sydney Homes Without Power Following Unfortunate Possu

Thousands of Sydneysiders lost power yesterday afternoon, after a possum sat on power lines and became stuck between them.

Around 8,000 residents in Frenchs Forest, Belrose and Davidson had no power for around an hour following the incident, before being restored at around 1am, according to Ausgrid.

The energy company took to Twitter to alert residents to the issue. 'When wildlife such as possums touch two wires it creates an arc of electricity between them,' Ausgrid wrote.

'The power line involved tonight was a high voltage cable.

Protection systems kicked in automatically to limit damage to the network.' A concerned reader thought to check if the possum had made it out of the ordeal okay.

When asked by a concerned reader if the possum was ok, Augrid said 'unfortunately the possum did not survive.'

So sad. :(
