102-Year-Old Sydney Man Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Woman
A 102-year-old man has been arrested at an aged care facility in Sydney and charged with sexual assault, making him the oldest alleged sexual offender in NSW history.
The elderly man, who lives at Bupa Queens Park aged care home in Waverly, allegedly indecently assaulted a 94-year-old woman and fellow resident on Tuesday according to NSW Police.
The accused was arrested at the facility and taken to a nearby police station before being charged and released on conditional bail.
Network Ten is reporting that the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research couldn’t find anyone over the age of 100 or older charged with a sexual offence. The records date back 23 years.
Bupa has since released a statement saying that they sympathise with the victim and her family and that their main concern is making sure their residents are safe.
“The safety and wellbeing of our residents is our utmost priority and we contacted the NSW Police and Department of Health as soon as we become aware of the matter,” the statement read.
“As this matter is currently before the courts we are unable to provide further details.”
The 102-year-old is due to appear at Waverly Local Court on November 20.
