The BEST Road Trips To Take In NSW This Winter

We don’t mean to alarm you now, but winter is right around the corner. And while yes this means the weather is sure to cool off pretty dramatically soon, it doesn’t mean that your weekend plans need to!

In fact, something that might be overlooked as the PERFECT winter activity here in Sydney is a good ol’ fashioned road trip!

While usually connected to connotations of the beach and sun, Sydney actually has so many beautiful places to offer that are perfect for the cooler months.

So if you’ve got a free weekend coming up, why not plan yourself a little road trip? We’ve done the hard work for you and compiled a list of the BEST places for you to visit across NSW this Winter.

All you need to do is buckle up and put together the ultimate playlist!

Oh and btw, if you’re thinking of making your road trip extra bougie by splurging on a new vehicle, you can grab an absolutely BANGING new car from BMW Sydney and MINI Garage Sydney’s brand spanking new showroom in Rushcutters Bay!

Find our list of the five best road trips for Sydneysiders at this time of year below:

The Hunter Valley:

We’ve got one word for you – WINERIES! No but seriously, The Hunter Valley is actually a perfect spot to mosey on down to for a weekend seeing as it’s only a 2-hour drive from Sydney! And if you take a little detour off the motorway you’ll even get a beautiful view of the countryside on your way.

Just imagine being all rugged up as you walk through the wineries, taste test some of the best wines, eat scrumptious food, check out the farmer’s markets or take a hot air balloon ride.

Whether you’re feeling a fun girls trip or a romantic getaway, The Hunter Valley has got to be one of the top spots for a road trip!

The Blue Mountains:

Another one that’s not too far away, the Blue Mountains offers up a city escape just two hours West of Sydney. Popular for tourists, The Blue Mountains has some of the most incredible scenery that you’ll ever see.

Check out the Three Sisters, hop on the steep railway into the greenery at Scenic World and of course stroll through the cute little towns filled with historic pups and cottages for a warm feed!

If you’re feeling super energetic, you might even want to pop on some comfortable shoes and try one of the many scenic bush walks. But don’t forget to rug up!

It goes without saying that good old Jindbyne is the perfect spot for Winter because HELLO, it’s snow season!

While it’s a bit further away, you can stop in at Canberra on your way down from Sydney and say G’Day to Parliament House (although we all know you’re really thinking about stopping at Questacon…)

Whether you feel like taking a ski run down the slopes on your or just want to sit by the fire with a steaming cup of hot chocolate, it’s hard to beat the serenity of this snow-filled town.

Grand Pacific Drive:

If you love your Insta aesthetics, then boy is this this road trip south perfect for you - it’s full of picturesque views perfect for you to capture on your socials.

It’s got some of the best views of the ocean and rainforest on offer along it’s winding roads, PLUS you can make the road trip as short or as long as you want starting at the Royal National Park!

Although some key spots we would recommend stopping at along the way include Kiama for the Blowhole and some whale watching, and of course Sea Cliff Bridge, which is a 450-metre-long bridge that winds out across the ocean!

We started with wine and so we feel as like we may as well come full circle and end in a spot that’s also perfect for your inner wineo!

Sitting around four hours west of Sydney, you can visit dozens of local wineries and then cozy up later around a warm fire with your purchases (and of course a nice cheese plate wouldn’t hurt either).

To work it all off later, Mudgee also plays host to some great hiking trails and scenic walks through the national parks.

Which road trip will you be hitting up first?
