How A Snapchat Video Ruined This Woman's Life

A 19-year-old woman was left in horror after waking to find her sexual assault had been live streamed on Snapchat. She has since slammed her attacker's 'soft' sentence.

Tracie Aldridge waived her anonymity after her abuser was put in jail for just 12 months.

Tracie was molested as she slept at a party, and the sickening footage was posted live on Snapchat.

The victim discovered what had happened after a friend told her a social media message containing the video had been sent to friends.

According to, the man, who has a record for violence and was assessed by social workers as at risk of committing further violent offences, was jailed for 12 months and placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

The other man, also 22, admitted committing a breach of the peace by uploading mobile phone footage of the assault to Snapchat. He avoided jail and was ordered to carry out 225 hours of community service.

“I’m waiving my anonymity because I’m so angry with the light sentences they got, but Fraser took my anonymity the minute he uploaded it to social media — and he got community service. It’s absolutely ridiculous. I just think it’s a joke." said the victim, who is now 21-years-old.

“They ruined my life, I’ve had two years of torment, and my life’s never been the same since it happened. I had to give up my job as a school cleaner because of the stress of it.

“I’ve been betrayed by the system. Shoplifters get heavier sentences than they got.”

“The police did a good job, but the Crown let Tracie down.” said Tracie's mother.
