Sydney Chinese New Year Festival

Bursting with more than 80 cultural events across 17 days, join in the festivities as we celebrate the 21st year of the Sydney Chinese New Year Festival from 27 January to 12 February 2017!

Attracting more than one million attendees in 2016, City of Sydney’s Chinese New Year Festival is the largest celebration of the Lunar New Year outside Asia.  From the heart-pounding Dragon Boat Races to lively traditions and exhibitions, take part in a uniquely Sydney celebration of the Lunar New Year.

Sydney’s most iconic landmarks will come alive this summer with the spectacular Lunar Lanterns.  Get up close to 12 giant, artist designed lanterns inspired by the Chinese Zodiac as they light up every night at Circular Quay against the magnificent backdrop of Sydney Harbour.

More than 1,000 performers from Sydney’s Chinese, Korean, Thai and Japanese communities will take part in dazzling cultural performances and displays during the Festival, as we welcome the year of the Rooster in Sydney.
