This Sydney School Has Banned Its Pupils From Doing This

An elite Sydney Girls School Wenona, sent a letter to parents warning them not to let their children watch Netflix “13 Reasons Why”.

The letter sent from Dean of Students Beth Oakley, addressed the show that grapples with Hannah Baker’s rationale behind ending her life.

The email warns parents of the traumatic content and reinforces the idea that parents should be speaking to children about suicide.

“While many viewers may be able to process the story, recognising that Hannah makes poor choices, vulnerable young people may be placed at further risk by being exposed to the series, without adequate adult support,' Ms Oakley said in the letter.

“Telling young people they shouldn't watch it may reinforce the idea that suicide shouldn't be discussed,”

It's important for the adults around them to be ready to talk to them about the content, and about what they should do if they or one of their friends needs help.''

According to youth mental health services, calls in Australia have reportedly increased dramatically since the show went to air in March.

If you or anyone you know needs help, please call LIFELINE 13 11 14.
