Six Second Phone Call Blows JonBenét Ramsey Case Open Again
The explosive first episode of The Case of JonBenét Ramsey has thrown up an enormous new piece of evidence - and it all has to do with that now-infamous 911 phone call.
While previews of the much-anticipated two-part series suggested that the emergency services operator Kim Archuletta would be spoken to for the first time since Patsy Ramsey made that frantic call 20 years ago, advances in technology have allowed investigators to dissect a previously unheard portion of the recording.
Because although the reportedly distressed mother thought she had hung up the phone, Archuletta could still hear voices and so kept the tape going; while some of the speech remains inaudible, there are three, distinct sentences that have blown the case wide open.
A male voice, belonging, it's believed, to John Ramsey, is heard to say "we're not speaking to you", after which a female - again, thought to be Patsy Ramsey - says "what did you do? Help me Jesus."
That's when a third voice, a child's, asks: "What did you find?"
That third voice is alleged to belong to Burke Ramsey, JonBenét's brother, who has always claimed to have been in bed, asleep, at the time.
"One of the reasons why I even stayed on until they disconnected [was] because there were things being said that people needed to know," Archuletta emotionally explained in last night's episode, alleging that her instincts had kicked in when Patsy went from "hysterical to matter-of-fact".
"It sounded like she said, 'Okay, we've called the police, now what?' and that disturbed me.
"So I remained on the phone trying to listen to what was being said.
"It sounded like there were two voices in the room, maybe three.
"Different ones, I had a bad feeling about this, to me it sounded rehearsed."
The final part of The Case of JonBenét Ramsey airs Tuesday September 20 at 8.40pm on Channel 9.
