Jimmy Kimmel Was Paid A Ridiculous Amount To Host The Oscars

It’s one of the most sought-after gigs in Hollywood when it comes to hosting, standing in front of the industry’s biggest names on the biggest night.

So just how much should the host of the Oscars be paid?

You would think a huge amount, right? Well, apparently it’s not much at all.

Turns out it’s more about the privilege than it is the paycheck.

Jimmy Kimmel, one of the most popular and highest-paid names in late night, recently revealed exactly how much he got paid to host the event.

Not bad for the average person right? But when Jimmy’s average salary for his ABC talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! Is $13-15 million, it’s just a drop in the ocean for him.

Considering some of Hollywood’s biggest names like Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres, Hugh Jackman and Liza Minnelli have all taken on the role in the past, the measly paycheck is apparently common among all of the hosts.

“They don’t pay you any money; the Oscars pay you like chicken feed,” Alec Baldwin, who hosted in 2010, told The Hollywood Reporter.

The same publication reported in 2013 that the average salary for the role is between $15,000 and $20,000 a night.
