Church Shock After Tupac Lyrics Were Mixed-Up For Prayer
We don’t know about you guys, but we don’t recall any Christmas carols having the lyrics, “revenge is like the sweetest joy, next to getting p***y”.
But that’s what churchgoers in Sri Lanka were treated to during a service on December 11.
In a booklet, distributed to those gathered for the Joy To The World service, were the words to Hail Mary.
Except it wasn’t Hail Mary, the well-known prayer.
It was the lyrics to the profanity-laced lyrics to rapper Tupac Shakur's Hail Mary.
Andrew Choksy, who was there, told CNN he recognised the song straight away.
"A lot of people were in shock as whether it was a joke or someone would actually rap the song," he said.
"A few of the older ladies in front of us could not stop looking at the printed booklet."
Father Da Silva, from the archdiocese, said the young boy who printed out the song had simply downloaded the wrong version.
"We are very sorry to say that this happened," he said.
Instead of the traditional "Hail Mary full of grace, the lord is with thee," Tupac's version asks Mary, "Do you want to ride or die?"
Tupac died after he was shot on September 13, 1996.
