Casey Donovan Reveals Why Her Record Company Dumped Her
She won Australian Idol in 2004, but despite her success and undeniable talent, Casey Donovan said her record label ‘didn’t know where to put her.’
The singer – whose album 'For You' peaked at number two on the ARIA Chart and single Listen With Your Heart soared to the top of the chart – opened up to Tziporah Malkah on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ on Thursday night about being dumped by Sony Music after winning the reality TV show.
“I just think they didn’t know where to put me,” she said.
“They didn’t know how to place me. I’ve never been popular. I don’t know why I won,” the now independently represented singer explained.
“Coming from a 16-year-old that loved being invisible and just wanted to do music, I was definitely put in the spotlight.
“That was something I had to learn to cope with and deal with. It got tricky for a while and I kind of stopped doing music for a while because I just didn’t know what I wanted to do and went and got a job.”
Who remembers this album?! This is where the journey started almost 13 years ago and look how far she's come since then. Yes, we're feeling a bit nostalgic today at #TeamCasey. But fear not, new music from Casey is coming very soon with some live shows around the country. #StayTuned #ImACelebrityAU #CaseyDonovan #Music #ForYou #DebutAlbum #2004 #AustralianIdol #Recording #Singer #idol #Flashback
Casey has recently been performing in musicals including We Will Rock You. But before entering the jungle she had a normal 9 to 5 job and was working as an Uber driving.
But new music could be on the cards for Casey. She revealed during the episode that she is finally ready to start exploring her musical talents again.
“I have now found the strength inside me to put my pen back down to paper and start writing the songs that I want to sing,” she said.
“That is what music is about, bleeding and crying all of your soul into a song and having that product at the end and you can say, ‘this is mine, I did it’. That passion and that fire is back in me to start writing my own stuff.”
Now that’s something to get excited about. We can’t wait!
