Online Abuse Toward Meghan, Kate Include 'Violent Threats'

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have been relentlessly targeted over social media, but now we know just how bad it is.

Kensington Palace staff spend "hours each week moderating sexist and racist comments" towards the two Duchesses, according to Hello! royal correspondent, Emily Nash.

She said that while the Palace had "always monitored" comments on social media, the task had become "hugely time consuming."

Some comments included violent threats towards the Duchesses.

"You can delete and report and block people and the police have options around particular people," Nash’s source added.

"It’s something you have to manage because there’s no other way to control it."

Nash also pointed out that royal fans are also targeting each other with online abuse.

"Arguments about who looks more appropriate, for example, that turn into personal attacks on other users. It’s creating a supercharged atmosphere, and everyone can join in, but what are the consequences of this?"

The Palace has reportedly turned to Instagram corporate to learn how to tackle it.

Nash said the problem was so bad that Hello! started a campaign called #HelloToKindness to foster online positivity.
