Tom Cruise Shares First Look At Top Gun Sequel
We feel the need, the need for the Top Gun 2 film! And it looks like it’s officially on the way (with a whole heap of speed we’re sure) after lead star Tom Cruise shared our first look of the air force action film’s set.
Filming for the long awaited second instalment of the film kicked off on May 30, over a year before the film is expected to hit cinemas and more than 30 years after the first film was released.
The 55-year-old actor posted a picture of him looking mighty fine as he fit back into Lieutenant Maverick’s fighter jet uniform, with aviator sunnies and helmet in tow, to his Twitter account.
The post was captioned ‘#Day1’ with the iconic quote “Feel the need” inscribed on the image that shows Cruise with his back to the camera, staring at a Jet.
The film titled ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is due to be released on June 12 2019. It’s set to follow Cruise’s character, Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, as he teachers younger fighter jet pilots.
Speaking with Access Hollywood last year, Cruise said that audiences can expect to see lots of action in the upcoming sequel.
“Aviators are back, the need for speed. We’re going to have big, fast machines,” he said. “It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one…but a progression for Maverick.”
The script for the film has been co-penned by Peter Craig who wrote The Hunger Games film and Justin Marks who wrote for The Jungle Book.
Joseph Kosinski will direct the sequel. He has previously worked with Tom Cruise in the 2013 action film Oblivion and has also worked on sci-fi sequel Tron: Legacy and firefighter drama Only The Brave.
The original Top Gun director Tony Scott sadly took his own life in August 2012 after the sequel had already been signed off.
