The BIG Reason Wonder Woman 2 Might Not Happen
If you loved the Wonderwoman movie that was released the year, starring the uber talented Gal Gadot, you’re certainly not alone.
With all the male superheroes launched over the last few years, it seemed time to have a strong female role model for women - and guys - to aspire to.
Gal Gadot is that superhero, in more ways than one.
According to a report on the New York Post’s Page Six, Gadot is threatening to walk from the Wonder Woman sequel unless accused Hollywood sexual harasser Brett Ratner is given the flick.
Just last month Gadot backed out of a dinner honouring Ratner, where she was due to present him with an award, and now she’s threatening to walk from the franchise unless something is done.
Ratner’s production company RatPac-Dune Entertainment helped produce Wonder Woman as part of its co-financing deal with Warner Bros, however if he stays on for the production of number two, it’s thought that plans of the sequel will be quashed.
The movie has grossed more than $522 million internationally, and Ratner’s company taking a healthy share of the profits, so it’s unlikely he’d want to jump ship before the sequel.
A Warner Bros. insider explained, “Brett made a lot of money from the success of Wonder Woman, thanks to his company having helped finance the first movie.
Now Gadot is saying she won’t sign for the sequel unless Warner Bros. buys Brett out [of his financing deal] and gets rid of him.”
The source added of Gadot, “She’s tough and stands by her principles.
“She also knows the best way to hit people like Brett Ratner is in the wallet.
“She also knows that Warner Bros. has to side with her on this issue as it develops.
“They can’t have a movie rooted in women’s empowerment being part-financed by a man accused of sexual misconduct against women.”
It’ll be interesting to see what happens next.
