Someone Has Officially Been FIRED Over That Oscars Blunder
The moment ‘La La Land’ was wrongfully announced as ‘Best Picture’ at the 2017 Oscars awards will go down in history, not necessarily for good reason. But now, as expected, someone has been fired… in a way.
It was revealed that the person responsible for the mix-up was one accountant from PricewaterhouseCooper, who tweeted a photo of Emma Stone from backstage moments before presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway the wrong envelope for best picture. It is thought that the man, Brian Cullinan’s distraction was to blame.
“Brian was asked not to tweet or use social media during the show,’’ a source said told People.
“He was fine to tweet before he arrived at the red carpet, but once he was under the auspices of the Oscar-night job, that was to be his only focus.’’
Cullinan has copped most of the blame for the incident after he was named and shamed by PricewaterhouseCoopers’ US Chairman, Tim Ryan, in a statement earlier in the week.
“At the end of the day, we made a human error,” Ryan told USA Today.
“We made a mistake. What happened was, our partner on the left side of the stage, Brian Cullinan, he handed the wrong envelope to Warren Beatty. And then the second we realised that, we notified the appropriate parties and corrected the mistake.”
However, it has now been revealed that Cullinan and another accountant thought to be responsible for the error, will keep their job at the company, but never return to the Oscars.
