Record Amount Of Nominations For Aus As Oscars Revealed

It is going to be a huge for Australia at the Oscar’s, with two films nominated for best picture - Lion and Hacksaw Ridge.

Lion, which tells the story about an Indian-Australian man tracking down his birth mother and Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge, a drama about an unlikely war hero, are among nine nominees for the top prize.

The records continue, with Lion receiving six nominations, including Nicole Kidman for the best-supporting actress, Dev Patel for supporting actor, Luke Davies for adapted screenplay, Greig Fraser for cinematography and Dustin O'Halloran and Volker Bertelmann for the original score at the 89th awards.



Hacksaw Ridge also scored six nominations with Mel Gibson getting the nod for best director. Also nominated are Andrew Garfield for best actor, John Gilbert for best editing and the film's teams for best sound editing and sound mixing.

The 13 nominations outweigh the 11, including 10 for Mad Max: Fury Road, last year. In 2002, Moulin Rouge was up for best picture, and the country scored 12 nominations.



La La Land will be looking to make sure it has the biggest night, scoring a record-tying 14 Oscars.

The smash hit musical, led by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, picked up the most nods and is now tied with Titanic and All About Eve.
