Home And Away Favourite Leaving "Indefinitely"
It's looking like the end of an era, with news that one of Home and Away's longest-serving actors is set to leave the show "indefinitely".
Lynne McGranger, who has played beloved Irene Roberts since 1993, told TV Week that she's bowing out of the Australian soap for an indeterminate amount of time - which means she may not ever be back.
Irene drops the shock news of her departure during a conversation with Ana Nicodemou's character Leah at the diner, after her business partner tells Irene that she wants to sell her share of the iconic cafe.
"Irene needs to get away," Lynne explained. "Summer Bay isn't holding anything for her anymore, so there's a chance she may never come back."
Incredibly, Lynne is the longest-serving female on the show, second only to Ray Meagher who plays Alf Stewart; her 24-year stint has seen her foster numerous kids, survive a bomb blast and battle with alcoholism.
