We Now Know What ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2 Will Be About
Without a doubt Big Little Lies was an amazing triumph on the small screen this year, and it received enough awards to prove it.
And so of course fans of the HBO series were incredibly excited when it was announced that Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman would grace our TV sets once again with a second season confirmed by the actresses/executive producers.
"I'm thrilled to be bringing back this talented team of artists," said Witherspoon in a statement.
"It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them.
"I'm beyond excited to be working with talented and acclaimed director Andrea Arnold who will be at the helm. Andrea's unique storytelling style will be a welcome addition to the filmmaking team."
But of course, when it came to the lead up to the first season of the hit show, most of us who had previously read the book of the same title by Liane Moriarty, knew the story that the plot would follow.
In this case though, there was no sequel novel written, and so ever since the second season was announced, we have all been perched on the edge of our seats waiting to find out just what mischief the ladies of Monterey would get up to.
And finally, FINALLY we have an answer for all of the Big Little Lies fans out there. While of course they haven't given the entire story line away to us, HBO have released this statement about what to expect from the upcoming seven episodes.
"The subversive, darkly comedic drama Big Little Lies will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting," the statement read.
"Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode...the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom."
We've also been told that we can expect season one cast favourites to return to our screens, including Laura Dern (Renata), Shailene Woodley (Jane), Adam Scott (Ed), Zoe Kravitz (Bonnie) and of course Witherspoon and Kidman.
Not only that, we can expect to see some new characters enter the mix, including Michael Perkins, a new teacher at Otter Bay Elementary School who gets into a tiff with overbearing mother Renata, and a second employee at the school who befriends young, innocent mum Jane.
Oh and don't forget the introduction of Bonnie's parents who, let's hope, are more wacky and hippie than her!
The actors and actresses who will be playing these roles have not yet been announced.
But if you were hoping to binge watch Big Little Lies season two over the holidays we're terribly sorry to disappoint you...We won't be seeing any new episodes until at least 2019!
That's one heck of a long wait...especially when season one finished back in April of this year!
But if HBO are promising us a show that's as juicy and captivating as the first season, we'll forgive them for taking their time just this once...Bring on 2019!!
