Chris Brown Officially Cancels Aus/NZ Tour After Visa Denial
US R&B singer Chris Brown's Australian and New Zealand concerts have been cancelled.
Brown's Australian tour was thrown into doubt in September after protests by GetUp! called for the performer's visa application to be denied due to his brutal assault of ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
"Mr Brown wishes to express his deepest gratitude to the fans for their support and looks forward to a successful tour in the near future," a statement from Brown's promoter posted on Ticketek Australia's Facebook page said.
"Mr Brown and the promoters both remain positive that the tour will take place in the near future."
Brown's opponents quickly took to Twitter after the announcement to celebrate the cancellation.
"Oh happy day. Chris Brown's NZ tour has been cancelled. Great outcome!" Paula Korunic tweeted.
"Chris Brown has been cancelled. Hopefully it's a sign that we're going to start treating domestic abuse more seriously," Stairway to Evan tweeted.
"Getting my visa the same day Chris Brown doesn't get his," John Palethorpe tweeted.
Brown's fans, however, weren't so happy.
"F**K YOU AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT, YOU F**K EVERYTHING UP FO RUS! I'm sorry Breezy :( #fuming #bulls**T," Mel Husejnovic tweeted.
"Chris Brown's show cancelled :( Noooooo," another tweeted.
Ticketek Australia has offered full refunds for those who purchased tickets with more details posted on their Facebook Page.
