A Hacker Is Holding Season 5 Of OITNW HOSTAGE
A hacker dubbed 'The Dark Overlord' is allegedly holding the upcoming season of Netflix's 'Orange Is The New Black' hostage after allegedly stealing the upcoming series.
The hacker is threatening to upload the whole series online if the streaming service doesn't pay him an unspecified amount. There are reports he's already released the first episode to an illegal file-sharing service.
The new series is set to air on June 9th but the breach could affect the company's subscriber growth and stock price.
In a ransom note written by the hacker, The Dark Overlord claims to have stolen other series from studios. The note claimed he was after a "modest" amount not to release them.
The Mail Online reported the hacker released a statement which reads:
“We’ve decided to release Episodes 2-10 of “Orange Is The New Black” Season 5 after many lengthy discussions at the office where alcohol was present.
“Do note that there are 13 episodes. However, we were so early when we acquired the copies that post hadn’t gotten around to Episodes 11-13.
“Perhaps Netflix will consider releasing the season earlier now that the cat’s out of the bag? We’re not quite done yet, though.
“We’re calling you out: ABC, National Geographic, Fox, IFC, and of course Netflix, still.
“There’s more Netflix on the feasting menu soon (in addition to the other studios, of course), but we’ll get to that later. Enjoy the fruits of our labour.”
Well, this could get interesting.
